Each year the Shriners Hospitals for Children helps children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment with no financial obligation to patients or their families. It's how Shriners Hospitals has been helping kids defy the odds since 1922. State of the art medical care is provided at no cost to the family – and the child and their family are transported to the hospitals free of charge. 

That’s where the Road Angels come in… 

Mecca Shrine, based in NYC, is the original Shriners Organization – the one that started it all. 

The Mecca Shriners transportation unit is comprised of volunteer members who chauffeur patients in the Tri-State area to and from the Shriners Hospital, in vans specially equipped for each child’s need – all at no cost to the family. The transportation unit is appropriately named the Road Angels. An average trip to the hospital costs $250 and the Mecca Shriners spend nearly $50,000 each year in providing this critical service. Road Angels events help raise the funds needed to cover the cost of the vehicles and fuel needed for each trip to the hospital.

Our event is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th, 2011, with the Bike Run beginning at New Roc Harley Davidson in New Rochelle at 9:00am. A festive day is planned featuring Rock ‘N Rods New York Classic Car Show, Live Music, Vendors, Games, Raffles, Prizes for Bikes and Cars, Great Food and most of all, the opportunity to help sick children get the high quality care they deserve.
